Emergreen began its gemstone business in 1976 in Hong Kong, and its operation is now managed by the second generation. It expanded from processing raw gemstones in India and China to trading in Hong Kong with the majority of its loose gemstones exports from Hong Kong going to jewelry manufacturers and designers in China, Australia, America, and Europe. Emergreen takes advantage of Hong Kong as an international hub in gemstone and jewelry trading. Both new and existing buyers come each year to trade shows to source loose gemstones and jewelry, giving Emergreen a prime source for new customers.
The Challenge
Emergreen ships gemstones from its suppliers and to its customers, including shipments with values ranging from USD5,000-USD100,000. “We need to protect our medium-value shipments to cover against loss and breakage,” said Mr. Rehman Ansari, Sales Manager of Emergreen. “For a low value shipment I might take a risk, but for higher value I have to have coverage.” During Covid, Emergreen’s business slowed down. Post pandemic, Emergreen continues to face a slow-moving gemstone and jewelry market, so when Emergreen ships medium-value gemstones to customers, insured shipping becomes a necessity. Not only will some carriers not accept shipment without coverage, but on a higher level, Emergreen needs to protect its goods, customers, and ultimately its business.

The majority of the time, when a customer’s import documents are ready, packages are cleared smoothly and swiftly, and are delivered within express carrier’s service guarantee period.
